Before joining Air Canada, Calin Rovinescu was the managing partner of Stikeman Elliott and for over 20 years practiced in the areas of corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions.
Calin Rovinescu’s distinguished career in business, and as cofounder of Genuity Capital Markets, served him well when he became President and CEO of Air Canada in 2009.
Under his leadership, and during a time of economic turbulence, he piloted the company’s rise from the brink of bankruptcy to soaring profitability while eliminating the significant drag of its $3.7 B pension plan deficit. As a result, in 2013 and again in 2019 he was named Canada’s best CEO by the Globe and Mail’s Report on Business.
Currently, Calin lives in Toronto and he serves on the board of directors of BCE Inc. , as well as the Bank of Nova Scotia, and has numerous other interests including his philanthropic initiatives.
